In the Vulcan quarter of Po'rama, M'Kress interrupts an argument between
two young vulcans in a soup restaurant, only to discover one of them is
a disguised Reinhardt questioning a woman who said a phrase in Romulan.
The woman takes advantage of M'Kress' interruption to run off. After they
fail to draw further information out of the server staff, a vulcan introduces
himself as Selak, a V'shiar (Vulcan security) agent investigating links
between the Tal Shiar and the Vulcan Isolationist Movement.
Ashok wants to get up and back on his feet as soon as possible, and Lyranna,
with the help of the medics, has trouble convincing him to stay in hospital
until he has begun to recover. The Bolian medic treating him reveals that
he has been injected with Genopsisitin - a powerful psi-suppresent. He
does not know whether Ashok will recover the psi ability of his secret
Betazed half.
Lyranna contacts Dr. Baruguile, a neuropathologist at the Betazed Institute
of Science. She knows Dr. Baraguile through his work on the disease that
cost Lyranna much of her own telepathic power.
Kath'lar is secretly sending a message to Kieran Mauro, asking for a
rematch with her mate. The last ended with defeat for K'ral, and Kath'lar
handing is Dagh'tagh over to save his life.
Lyranna has Loras accompany her to Petersen's office, where she angrily
accuses him of setting up Ashok Quayn (who is not publicy known to be
a telepathic half-Betazed) to be attacked. Petersen appears surprised,
and volunteers to be questioned. Captain Horah-Morash considers whether
to grant the civilian investigation access to Petersen's communication
logs.
Ashok expresses impatience with the Starfleet investigation. Lyranna -
who has some empathic ability - confronts him about his lie to the investigators
that he has no enemies. He describes his mortal enemy half sister, his
feebleminded father, and his vulnerable enslaved mother.
Selak joins several Starfleet personnel to monitor a meeting of the suspect
VIM cell. Loras Veltr'a becomes suspicious when he sees from Selak's tricoder
that the supposed VIM cell is actually favourably discussing Spock's reunification
movement. He tries to tricorder scan Selak, who opens fire. M'Kress, Veltr'a,
and Reinhardt subdue Selak, who turns out to be Romulan.
Some events may be in the wrong order, or even the wrong episode.
