214 The Message
Stardate: 5153.6
It is the day of Ashok and Lyranna's reception. (The wedding took place
on the spur of the moment, so the reception is the moment for presenting
the wedding to friends.) It takes place on the Orion Coffee bar, and old
friends are invited.
The Tholians allow the opening of a second corridor between New Lhasa
and the rest of the UFP. This corridor opens near Klingon, rather than
Gorn, space, and cuts short the time taken for the party to get home from
Qu'onos.
Lyranna gets a package - a scarf of white Tholian silk, a gift from Tholian
Ambassador Tzadok.
The invited old friends include William Scarlett, from the USS Darwin.
He is approaching New Lhasa in a public shuttlecraft when Q appears, and
makes him an offer. Will Scarlett, like Lyranna Quayn, lost his partner
at Wolf 359. Q offers to bring the partner back if Will will try to convince
Lyranna to abandon the deeply inappropriate Ashok.
Will meets Ashok, and asks him searching questions before checking what
Ashok says as best he can, as well as discussing him with Loras. He uncovers
nothing to convince him to take Q's advice. (Which is to say, he uncovers
nothing other than him being not offically half-Betazoid.) He tells Lyranna
that he was offered a not inconsiderable incentive to convince her to
drop Ashok, but not what or by whom. He adds better defensive systems
to The Orion Coffee Bar.
Around this time, Lyranna gets a message.
The USS Voyager - the ship that was lost years previously with all hands
- including Lyranna's sister Miri - has made contact with the Federation.
Messages are being exchanged.
The marriage is confirmed with a private Betazed ceremony on Ashok's holodeck.
(Since the marriage, they have found a sympathetic Betazoid priestess.)
The meal is interrupted by the drunken Klingons, still celebrating their
recent victory against the hosts of House Jej'vagh, who are convinced
to leave. Later on, Lyranna gets a message from Voyager, which she takes
in private.
It is Captain Janeway, reporting the death of Miriana Stadi to next of
kin.
Lyranna goes home alone. The party is over. At home, her grief is interrupted
by a call from the front line of the Dominion War. Cmdr Cain, the Trill
first officer of the USS Darwin, offers her congratulations on the wedding,
and receives an awkward explanation of the news.
When Ashok joins her later, he finds that she has removed the picture
of her sister from its place in her bedroom.
Miriana Stadi is the Betazed Paris flirts with who is more interested
in Voyager, and dies when the ship is flung accross the galaxy. The
player behind Cain joined the game over the phone, and thought that her
timing sucked. (The juxtaposition was deliberate.)
