Season Three

308 Lyranna

Back in Q's "afterlife", Lyranna and Mariella decide that the only thing they can think of to try in order to return Lyranna’s emotions to her is a mind meld. The only problem is that neither of them knows the procedure and a mind-meld is dangerous even between experts. They come to the conclusion that they have nothing to lose through trying and attempt it anyway. It works and Lyranna tells Mariella to leave. She does and immediately contacts Loras Veltra’a, telling him to get to Lyranna as quickly as possible.

Petersen briefs Loras on Lyranna. According to Dr Xhosa Lyranna overdosed on a Betazoid sedative and they could do with an expert in Betazoid medicine. Loras sends Merif with a shuttle to fetch Mariella. Mariella and Dr Xhosa work together to beam the antidote directly into Lyranna’s bloodstream, countering enough of the effects to stabilise her. Mariella advises having Lyranna’s friends present when she wakes, ideally either Ashok Quayne or Kal Orioli. Once he is sure Lyranna will recover Loras arrests Mariella. Petersen stays with Lyranna. When she wakes she tells him about Q’s offer to save either Kal or Ashok. He tries to track them down through the computer and reports that Kal is safe but the whereabouts of Ashok are unknown. She asks him to contact Kal.

Loras tells Kath’lar that Petersen went through his logs. She storms into Petersen’s office and confronts him. Once she leaves he continues trying to contact Kal Orioli.

Captain Horah Morash gives Veltra’a a lecture on inter-personnel relations and earning respect instead of taking it for granted. Veltra’a says that he will practice his leadership skills on the Holodeck.

The Captain, Veltr’a, Petersen and Shar meet to discuss Lyranna’s letter. Loras asks who is leading the search for Ashok at Cestus III. Horah Morash suggests giving Lyranna compassionate leave and letting her join in the search. Petersen offers to talk to Lyranna. Captain Horah Morash suggests bringing Dr Torellan along as she may have an insight into Lyranna’s state of mind.

There is a long discussion between Horah Morash, Petersen and Mariella over what to bring Lyranna as a gift. They settle on flowers and fruit but Lyranna had already vacated her Starfleet quarters.

Petersen goes separately to the Orion Coffee House in an attempt to find Lyranna. He is told that she is in the Holodeck. He leaves a message and informs Captain Horah-Morash. She calls back, they meet, and he tries to convince her to re-think her resignation. She offers him dinner.

Later, Captain Horah Morash and Mariella visit Lyranna. Horah Morash puts Lyranna on indefinite compassionate leave, and leaves Lyranna and Mariella to talk. Lyranna talks about Ashok and that as a member of the Orion Syndicate, Starfleet did not approve of their relationship and would force them apart. She blames Petersen for an attack on Ashok, which led to Ashok trying to hack into Petersen’s files.

Petersen has a meeting with his father in the G'rah's Bar where Veltr’a is playing. He tells his father - Sam Petersen - about being asked to chair a political party and asks who his father is supporting in the upcoming elections. Recent arrivals like Sam cannot vote anyway. Sam has bad news about George's mother. Under the Dominion puppet rule, all humans on Motos are registered and the ones the Dominion believes are dangerous have been placed in internment camps. Petersen’s mother is interned. Petersen wants to get her out. Sam claims that the internment is because of the plans to ally with the Dominion he handed Starfleet, and that Starfleet therefore owe him help to rescue him. They leave to see Horah Morash.

The following day Lyranna emerges from the Holodeck to find a message from Kal Orioli waiting for her. He’d heard that someone from New Lhasa had been trying to call him and will try and call again but it may be difficult as he is moving between ships tending to the wounded. A few hours later, they stop playing communicator tag and talk.
